Mr. Francis Liew Kim Choong is a young and vibrant entrepreneur from Kuala Lumpur who is the Managing Director of Bina PYK (Sabah) Sdn Bhd, one of the leading building contractors in East Malaysia. With 16 years of experience under his belt, Francis Liew is responsible for determining the company's strategic objectives and policies as well as heading to a new society development.

Bina PYK is a construction company that was incorporated in 1999 and engages solely in buildings and civil engineering construction projects. Francis Liew leads a team that has an unblemished track record over the past 19 years, having erected numerous high-rise projects such as hotels and high-end residential units. Their competitive advantage lies in urban development where construction site management is crucial when faced with space constraints and public safety concerns.

The third generation of a family of builders, Francis Liew displayed a remarkable interest in construction at a young age and was often drawn to structures that stretched the boundaries of physics and imagination. His stint at the University of Nottingham in United Kingdom, where he obtained his Bachelor of Engineering (Hons.), inspired him design buildings which seamlessly incorporate natural elements into living places. Equipped with a forward-looking ethos and an acute attention to detail, Francis Liew joined Bina PYK (a Kuala Lumpur based company) as a junior manager in 2003 and was quickly noticed by management for his budding talent in the industry. Since then, he has completed several successful projects including the 22-storey Menara MAA in Seremban and the award winning 33-storey PJ Exchange in Petaling Jaya, Selangor.

Francis Liew also commands an unparalleled comprehension of construction works and understands that fundamentally each successful project must combine superior workmanship with sound budgeting. Under his helm, Bina PYK maintained and built upon their stellar record of a perfect completion rate and an uncompromising approach to quality. Through his outstanding contributions, Francis Liew eventually took a directorship position within the company. Having cemented a strong reputation in Kuala Lumpur, one of his key roles was to lead the company’s strategic expansion process into other parts of Malaysia to broaden the company’s profile.

Whilst conducting his due diligence, Francis Liew was approached by one of the company’s clients to complete an abandoned project in Sabah. Francis Liew and his team readily undertook the project, demonstrated an unprecedented level of commitment which made a lasting impression on the local developmental authorities and other key players in the building industry. The instruction proved to be fortuitous – whilst overseeing the project, Francis Liew noted that Sabah was blessed with an abundance of natural resources such as timber, palm oil and cocoa, had vast stretches of unblemished coastlines, lush greenery, and a bustling food culture with a focus on seafood. These factors synergised perfectly with Francis Liew’s building philosophy and vision of building impeccable homes whilst directly contributing to the state by creating jobs and elevating its architectural prestige. Seizing on this opportunity to fulfil his ambition, Francis Liew set up Bina PYK (Sabah) and went on to complete several multi-million-dollar projects over the course of 6 years including The Peak Vista Tower A&B, The Peak Soho, The Bay Residence and Lido Avenue.

Francis Liew’s enterprising spirit steered Bina PYK (Sabah) to new heights, and established Bina PYK (Sabah) as a leading industry player in East Malaysia as well. Beyond driving his company forward, Francis Liew also brings his entrepreneurial spirit to the community. He believes that a sustainable company is one that is also socially responsible and benefits those around it and that the best way to inculcate the spirit of charity to others is through leading by example. Personally, Francis Liew is a generous donor to the Kelab Rekreasi Imigresen Sabah (KRIS) and Holy Family Residence for Senior Citizens. He also leads his company in organizing outreach efforts for Persatuan Pembina Sabah, a youth outreach organization.

A family orientated man, Francis Liew is married to his wife, Mdm. Cao Fang Fang, and is blessed with 6 children. His children remind him that the greatest and simplest joy in life resides inside of homes. Yet his dedication to family goes beyond that of his own, he wants to give each and every family whose path he crosses an affordable and comfortable accommodation that people can call their own. In work, his vision is to build homes, not houses. For people only live in houses, but homes are the foundation for families to build their legacies.

Planning for future growth, Francis Liew says that he would continue to embark on projects in Kuala Lumpur and Sabah as there is still much untapped potential in both regions. Beyond continuing his successful formula, Francis Liew aims to expand his plethora of projects to include more homes for the elderly and children. Having been brought up in a loving family and the head of one now, he believes in paying it forward by taking care of the elderly and building a better country for the youth which represents the future. Furthermore, his time volunteering has led him to take on the task of sheltering the pioneers of the present and the youth that would shape our future as part of his company mission. As with his forefathers before him, Francis Liew intends to utilise his position and abilities to elevate the social infrastructure around him through ground-breaking yet affordable planning constructions.

Asked about his favourite quote, Francis Liew says that he has always been deeply impressed by the knowledge & invention by Ancient Chinese Carpenter, Lu Ban who departed modern construction numerous of physics art & method in terms of dimension, geometry, brightness & detailed narration on the formal arrangements of the building compound.

Reflecting on his success, Francis Liew emphasizes that a company should grow alongside the community it operates within. He hopes that the name PYK will be synonymous with a people orientated company that focuses on the sustainability of the land they build wonderful dream homes on, and one that people recognize as quality for the ages. “I believe that the sky’s the limit, and I plan to build my way to it so everyone gets a chance too,” says Francis Liew.
